How to Use This Dead Pixel Test

Testing your monitor for pixel defects is simple and requires no software installation:

  1. Clean your screen: Before starting, ensure your screen is free of dust and smudges to avoid false positives.
  2. Enter Full Screen: Click any of the color buttons (White, Red, Green, etc.) to fill your entire screen with that color.
  3. Inspect Carefully: Look for any tiny dots that are not the correct color.
    • Dead Pixels: Usually appear as black dots on a white background. They are pixels that do not light up.
    • Stuck Pixels: Appear as a bright red, green, or blue dot on a black background. These are pixels stuck permanently "on".
  4. Auto Cycle: Use the "Auto Cycle" feature to automatically switch through all colors, helping you spot anomalies quickly.
  5. Exit: Press the ESC key on your keyboard to exit the test mode at any time.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a dead pixel vs. a stuck pixel?

A dead pixel is a pixel that receives no power and appears black, which is highly visible on white backgrounds. A stuck pixel is a pixel that is permanently stuck showing a specific color (red, green, or blue), making it very noticeable on dark backgrounds.

Can dead pixels be fixed?

True dead pixels (black dots) are usually permanent hardware failures. However, stuck pixels (colored dots) can sometimes be fixed by flashing colors rapidly (using our Auto Cycle tool) or by gently massaging the area with a soft cloth.

Is this tool safe for my monitor?

Yes, absolutely. This tool simply displays solid colors on your screen. It does not stress your hardware or modify any system settings.
